1) New Steward Fees and Program Rules Effective August 1, 2011
Stewards, Remitters, Sub-Remitters and Retailers are encouraged to plan ahead for the new Steward fees that come into effect on August 1, 2011
As we informed you in previous Bits and Bytes Issues and during a June 29 webcast, OES Steward fees are changing effective August 1, 2011. By way of reminder, the current Rules and the 2010-2011 fee rates remain in effect for OES reports filed for the obligation months of May (this month’s report), June and July 2011.
Starting August 1, 2011 the new Rules and Steward fees come into effect for OES reports filed for the obligation months of August 2011 to July 31, 2012. You will notice that the Steward fees have either stayed the same or have decreased.
OES requests that everyone in the information technology/consumer electronics supply chain be aware of these changes (including staff), and adjust their systems accordingly to reflect the proper fees taking effect on August 1, 2011.
In addition to notification provided in Bits and Bytes, OES has formally ‘notified’ Stewards of the approved fees and Steward obligations for the period of August 1, 2011 to July 31, 2012.
If you were unable to join the June 29 webcast, we invite and encourage you to view the slides or the webcast archive (including slides and commentary). The archive will remain live throughout July.

Over the recent months OES and other provincial programs (ACES, ESBAC,SWEEP) have consulted Electronic Product Stewardship Canada (EPSC) for clarification on interpreting the definition and obligation of new emerging technologies (EEE materials). In other cases EPSC has provided guidance on EEE materials/products that could meet more than one obligated material category definition and needs to be assigned to a specific category.
