Welcome
Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) is a not-for-profit organization formed by leading retail, information technology and consumer electronic companies to implement the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Program Plan under the Waste Diversion Act. The plan requires brand owners, first importers, franchisors, and assemblers to pay fees for electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) supplied to Ontario. Collected fees will be used by OES to operate the WEEE program.
The program includes multiple phases. The Phase 1 Plan addresses desktop and portable computers, computer peripherals, monitors, printers, fax machines and televisions, and came into effect on April 1, 2009. The approved Revised (Phase 1 and 2) Plan addresses additional materials such as phones, cameras and audiovisual equipment, and will commence on April 1, 2010. In the interim, OES will continue to implement the Phase 1 WEEE Program Pan that commenced on April 1, 2009.
Consumers who want to find nearby collection locations for their electronic waste can go to an interactive website, www.dowhatyoucan.ca, select “electronics” and search for the nearest collection site by municipality, postal code or material type.
