Small Business Week is held every year in October to celebrate the contribution and achievement of Canadian entrepreneurs. We decided the event would be a perfect time to spread awareness through a campaign to educate small and medium sized businesses about planning for end-of-life electronics.
Many of you may be familiar with our End-of-Life Technology web event that was held earlier this year. We decided to re-launch the webinar which included leading experts on e-waste management as part of our outreach to Ontario business owners. Our goal was to help organizations build an e-waste plan to safely and responsibly dispose of old computers, printers and cell phones.

Author and business strategist Jim Harris also joined me on the Small Business Week campaign. Jim spoke to the media about small business fraud and identity theft issues that can arise when electronics are not recycled properly. Jim was also part of the discussion panel for the webinar and we were thrilled he was able to be involved with OES once again.
Our campaign involved a news release and a profile piece in the Hamilton Spectator’s Small Business Week supplement in addition to stories in other publications.
I encourage you to talk to business owners in your network who may be interested in our whitepaper to help inform them of proper planning techniques for recycling their electronics. We are working hard to decrease the amount of e-waste generated by businesses and hope you will take the time to learn and motivate people in your own community.
Regards,
Carol
