Collection Site Overview

Waste electronics are collected through a network of municipal and non-municipal sites run by public and not-for-profit organizations. At some locations, materials are received daily, while others host regular collection days and many  feature intermittent special collection events and activities throughout the year.

A common element among all collection sites certified by the OES program is they each meet certain fundamental conditions as a requirement of participating in this program. The conditions cover site operations, including management and storage of materials, health and safety and training and documentation concerning collection and preparation of the materials collected.

Each site included in this collection network must be registered with OES through the online registration system. In preparation to register a site, site operators will be asked to complete a ‘pre-registration’ that certifies each of the fundamental site conditions are in place, or will be, prior to receipt of waste electronics under the OES program.
